ENGINEERING: THE ESSENCE OF LIFE

The creation can be categorized in two groups; Living and non living. Plants and animals are the ingredients of the first group while all other things except this two are called as non living. Including all the machine, road, building, city, transportation mediums, foods, cloths, living places, computers, furniture's, schools, Govt. and non Govt. organizations includes in the second group. Human beings are the designer of all these non living things.

1st they feel the need and then know the importance of that. They design, manufacture and finally make it user compatible. They are called engineers. The historical definition of engineering tells us the story about those beings design and manufacture engines. With duration the definition has been modified, those who design machines and manufacture them are called engineers. But now a day it includes all the non living things existing in this world.

Mechanical engineering known as the mother of engineer while civil and electrical are the branches of that. With duration all of them have been specified to some new engineering trades as per the requirement of human living. mechanical engineering has been divided as manufacturing, welding technology, robotics, aerospace, marine, production, materials, food technology, lather technology and many more like these while electrical specified to electronics and telecommunication, instrumentation engineering. The combination of mechanical and electrical brings a new engineer-ring named mechatronics.

Beside these most popular engineering trades in India are textile, agriculture, chemical, Hydrology, Earthquake Engineering, Wood Science and Forest Products, Metallurgical and Materials, Paper Technology and architect engineering. Chennai based engineering college (Guindy) known as the oldest Engineering Colleges in India (1794 AD) while Indian Institute of Technology, roorkee follows the rank (1847).

IIT's holding the leading position in engg. In early days there were seven IIT's in India but recently nine new IIT's started in some other cities. In total of 16 IIT's governing the engineering studies in different fields. Beside the Govt. institutes some private universities like Birla Institute of Technology (Pillani, Mesra and Ranchi), International Institute of Information Technology (Hyderabad), Thapar University (Patiala) are holding the leading position in private studies in the country. 20 NIT's fallows the IIT's as the leading engineering colleges in the country.
